Dr. James Ferguson is a graduate of Vanderbilt University (B.A.), and The University of Tennessee Medical Units, College of Dentistry(D.D.S.). He did his residency in Orthodontics at St Louis University and received the Master of Science in Dentistry Degree (M.S.D.). He completed his Board Certification process and became a Diplomat of the American Board of Orthodontics in 1980..

Dr. Ferguson, in addition to his private practice in Franklin, Tennessee is an Associate Professor at the University of Tennessee Medical Units (Memphis), Orthodontic Department where he has been on the teaching staff since 1980. He is also a member of the teaching staff of the Charles H. Tweed International Orthodontic Education and Research Foundation. He has served on the Board of Directors for this foundation and is currently Co-Chairman of the Research Committee. He is also a member of the teaching staff of the EPGET Foundation in France, Italy and Monaco.

Dr. Ferguson has co-written computer generated Orthodontic Diagnostic Programs with Dr. George Harris - Menominee, MI. These programs are used by orthodontists in the US, Europe, Mexico, Canada, South America, Japan, Korea, and Taiwan. He has also designed and written web sites for the Southern Association of Orthodontists and The Charles H. Tweed International Orthodontic Foundation.
